Good evening Students, Parents, and Guardians of Sunny Brae Middle School,

It’s that time of the year again, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome you back to school! We hope that you had an amazing and restful summer filled with adventures and memorable moments. Now, it’s time to dive into a brand-new school year, and we’re here to make it unforgettable! Here is some information to have before starting school, which will also be emailed and available on our school website.

Firstly is our staggered entry plan for the first week back with students. All students will attend school on 3 out of 4 days for the first week only. This will allow teachers to get to know your child and complete some initial assessments, as well as students the opportunity to transition smoothly to back-to-school mode.

On Tuesday, September 5th, ONLY students in Grades 5 and 6 will attend. Grade 7 and 8 students will stay home that day.   

On Wednesday, September 6th and Thursday, September 7th – All students will attend.  

On Friday, September 8th only students in Grades 7 and 8 will attend. Grade 5 and 6 students will stay home.  

Secondly, our wonderful admin assistant, Ms. Frontain, chose to retire over the summer leaving her position open. We are happy to announce that Ms. Hanson will be our new admin assistant starting on Monday, August 28th, and wish Ms. Frontain all the best. 

Thirdly, on Monday there will be no power at Sunny Brae school, so we will be unable to take new registrations at this time. If you are looking to register a student, please do so from Tuesday to Friday.

Fourthly, teachers are back to work tomorrow and over the course of the week will be reaching out to the families of students in their homeroom for a quick phone introduction. There will be some new names and faces around “The Brae”, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the SBMS family.

Finally, a few housekeeping items:

Our bell schedule has changed slightly. Supervision will start each morning at 8AM and the homeroom bell will ring at 8:20 a.m. to start the day. Students will be dismissed at 3PM. 
We have a new cell phone policy that will be sent home with students on the first day of school, and will be posted to the school website next week for your review. 
We can’t wait to see all of the wonderful things that students will achieve this year, and hope to make it one filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories. Welcome back, Sunny Brae Middle School superstars! Let’s make this year the best one yet!
